Macca’s Chef’s & the Angus Burger

i'm lovin' it logo

I’ve been fortunate enough to be contacted by one of the Social Media team working on this project, and have given a copy of this video before it is launched later today on Channel 10.

Utilising social media, a MasterChef spoof 9-part webisode series has been created by FremantleMedia for McDonald’s Australia. The webisodes will launch on www.masterchef.com.au/littlebitfancy as Celebrity MasterChef gets underway tonight.  McDonald’s will be also invite customers to go to the site and star rate the Angus Burger range.

The webisode series has been executive produced by Chris Culvenor, who had an integral part in reformulating MasterChef for Australian audiences and who is credited with producing the wildly successful digital series, Myspace Road Tour.

The webisodes will follow two trainees, Steve and Chris who will battle it out to become Australia’s first Macca’s Chef. They will compete in a 9 series intensive competition in a parody of MasterChef Australia, as they complete Taste Tests, The Tomato Challenge, The Drive Thru Challenge, The Customer Service Challenge, a Cook Off and more. The trainee’s are to be guided and mentored to create the “It’s a little bit fancy” Angus Burger range by Jean–Pierre Benoit-Gateux towards a grand finale to win the title of Australia’s Macca’s Chef!

Taste Test

“The Macca’s Chef series is designed to be fun, but also participatory. We will put our burgers to the test and will learn from our consumers. We also hope it will show potential new trainee’s the fun side of our business”, said Toby Dewar, McDonald’s National Sponsorship and Media Manager

The first webisode of the nine webisodes can be downloaded here: Episode 1.mp4

  1. Ben,

Surely this has to be a joke? A burger patty, is a burger patty, it’s minced/ground meat. Why Angus, why not Arnold? Same meat different name.

  2. Jon – have you tried one? To dust off an old chestnut, don’t go shooting from the hip.

The ‘Angus’ burger is from Angus breed of cattle – unlike the other burgers, and after trying one, I could taste the difference -

  3. Ben,

I don’t want this to turn into a long winded debate like the HJ’s saga, but some thoughts.

Meat in my view is judged on the following; flavour, texture, tenderness and look. Once meat is minced/ground you can forget texture and tenderness. All patties look the same and as far as flavour goes, once covered in sauce, cheese and bacon, come on, you would not know what the meat tasted like.

  4. Well, sir, you haven’t answered my question re trying it.

Personally, I have tried it, and the meat was a distinct flavor.

  5. Ben,
In answer to your question, no I have not eaten any form of burger for many years. But that is not really what we are discussing, what is is the new “it’s a little bit fancy” burger.

I’ll ask you a question Ben. If two patties an original and a new Angus one where treated in the same way e.g same bun, same dressing, same extras etc, would you be able to tell the difference?

  6. Jon, you say all minced meat tastes the same.. obviously you havent tasted meat.. different qualities of meat do taste different therefore whether it is minced or not it would taste different.

  7. Sarah,
I have never said all meat tastes the same. Please read what I did say. I suggested a burger patty, swamped in sauce, cheese, bacon and what ever. Would make no difference what type of cattle it came from.

  8. I think this is just plane silly,
    Does it matter?
Isn’t it the fact if you just plane enjoy it?

Stop debating this silly thing and just enjoy what you have, People are lucky to be able to enjoy things like this when there are people dieing from hunger.

  9. Jonangle just seem’s to complain about everything, even though he’s never tried this, and admits to not even going to these stores – so again, he is just talking complete crap and should be ignored.

Ben May on 15th October, 2009 at 10:22 am
  10. Ben,
I haven’t “complained” about any thing. Unlike you I do answer when questioned, too hard Ben?
As to “crap”, you should know, you eat it.

  11. Jon – your opening comment was a complaint, that said burger was merely a joke. Basing this opinion without trying it. Clearly as you had nothing insightful to say, you should have said nothing.

I have answered your question, that you can’t understand or comprehend that beef from a different breed of cattle would taste any different. As I said, I HAVE tried is, and I DID noticed/ taste a difference, however that appears not to be enough for you, so you asked Sarah the same question.

Please don’t continue to post on this site if you don’t have anything insightful or something that adds value to the conversation or I’ll just delete them.

  12. Ben,

You can delete any thing you like, it won’t alter the truth. In my first post I offered a comment, as I had not tried the burger, how could I complain?
As to my question, no you have not answered, try reading it again.
The real trouble with you Ben, is you don’t like to loose.

  13. Believe what you like Jon, You opened your comments, like you usually do, with a negative comment on a product you’ve never tried, and put in a comment that had nothing to do with what was being discussed.

I have answered your question, as have other readers, but your narrow view on this remains the same.

The real trouble with you Jon is, no I won’t say it here.

  14. Ben,
On the 5/10 I asked you “would you be able to tell the difference” and you failed to answer.

Please tell me the “comment that had nothing to do with what was being discussed”?

As to Sarah, please tell me where I said “all minced meat tasts the same”?

    Come on Ben, get real.

  15. How Can I explain to someone who doesn’t eat at McDonalds the difference.

I said there was one, as did Sarah, but you chose to continue to not accept that as an answer.

I’m over this argument with you Jon.
