Please don’t press forward!

With any new invention or piece of technology, there are those who can use and operate it, and there are those who are incompetent and ruin the experience for anyone else who may be close or associated.

When email was a new thing for the home user, we’d receive large amounts of “chain-email”. This annoying emails, apart from viewing hundreds on hundreds of emails addresses, we’d be urged to forward on the email to all our contacts. If we didn’t forward these emails, horrible things, such as hotmail closing, never getting laid, dying etc would occur! Heaven forbid! You mean Hotmail and Microsoft can track my email even when it goes to Yahoo!? Boy, that’s bad!

As people, such as myself, got sick of receiving these annoying emails, we used spam filters and what not, to ignore them. Now-a-days, people don’t get many chain emails (that I know of). When the chain email evolution ended, the MySpace one started! This is just as annoying! Posting stupid comments full of images on people’s profiles.

At the moment, the MySpace revolution has diminished, the Facebook revolution is in full swing! What’s worse about facebook and the SuperWall application, is that when you go to forward a superwall post, it AUTOMATICALLY selects every contact you have! How more annoying can you get!!

Facebook initially was great - only savvy people who didn’t forward that rubbish around used it. Now that the younger generation has hit it, I’m getting 3 to 5 posts a day about stupid chain posts!! It’s almost enough to make me leave facebook and find something better!!

    Ben,
Thank you very much, now I know that if I don’t forward anything, I have more chance of getting laid!! I will never ever forward an e-mail again,PROMISE.

I have a facebook account, myspace account, youtube account, hotmail account, bigpond account, my own bigblog account and counting! I mostly use my own name and email addy. I’m over 50 yrs old and a+counting!
I hate spam and regularly receive invitations to enlarge a part of the anatomy that I just don’t have. I hate receiving chain emails also but with some bad comes a lot of good stuff. How hard is it to dump unwanted stuff into my block sender folder… not difficult at all.
Email and the web are easy and cheap ways to stay in touch and find people that we have forgotten about as we journey through life.
    Don’t stress. Cheers, Sue

    Good Evening Sue,

I think you are the most technology savvy councillor around!

As you know, by email and domain are my name, so I get tonnes of spam, but my servers filter it all out (Unlike the Devil, Bigpond!) haha

However, it’s the facebook mail I get on a daily basis that triggered me to write this post!

I’ve been on the net for years (still don’t understand much of it) and have to agree the spam e.mails have dropped off but like Sue I get offers I can easily refuse.

As I have never been able to find a message board or forum for Hervey Bay I have opened one but I need people to join to make it work.

Just giving myself a little plug, I gotta start somewhere.

    Cheers Pink
