David Koch’s Joke of the Day Drama

It took me a few days to get around to finding out the deal. I heard all over the radio about David Koch’s joke of the day drama on Monday the 4th of December 2006.

From the Sunrise Family Newsletter:

A day later - it was still making news. By lunchtime on Tuesday, it had become the most viewed article on the Sydney Morning Herald website! They even conducted an online poll on whether the joke was funny. The last time I checked, they had more than 7,000 votes with 35% describing it as mildly amusing and 27% considering it wildly amusing. 16% found it preposterously offensive.

Our own Sunrise poll asked whether “joke of the day” should be scrapped altogether. 87% voted no. We always say this is your show - so the jokes will continue.

For those who haven’t seen / heard the joke, here it is;

John Howard was on a ski trip with his minders and came to the bottom of a hill to find someone had peed a message in the snow saying “John Howard is a dork!”. Howard gets very indignant and says to his minders, “Take some photos and a sample of the urine and send them to the FBI, I want to find out who did this!” The next day he gets a call from the head of the FBI who says, “I’ve got good new and bad news, the good news is it is Kim Beazley’s urine, the bad news is it’s Jeanette’s hand writing!”

Frankly, I don’t think that it is too offensive. As David Koch said, it is only a joke. I would advise those people who some how took that offensive, to “lighten up”
