CeBIT 2009
2009 was my second year attending CeBIT in Sydney. CeBIT is Australia’s largest ICT trade show, and has an enormous amount of ICT vendors with displays and new, innovative products.
This year, with the GFC (Global Financial Crisis) – allot of people tipped that a considerable about of vendors were going to pull out. This was not incorrect, so of the bigger ICT vendors like Melbourne IT and D-Link pulled out early.
Expecting the tradeshow to be a lot smaller this year, I find it very reassuring when you fly into Sydney and see the CeBIT flags all over the CBD and Darling Harbour.

CeBIT 2009 was a tiny bit smaller, with respects to Vendors, however, the products on show and CeBIT’s new section, “WebCiety” was very interesting.
The Crowds were down a little bit this year, from what I saw this year, and last, which means the sales reps were hot on your tale.
Some interesting things I saw this year, were the CSIRO stand, which was attending last year I’m pretty sure, however this year, I took a good look at some of their latest projects, which included eye controlled survailance systems and remote operation systems were fascinating to look at and see projects that are being funded by the Australian Government.
This year, I noticed a lot of POS (Point of Sale) Applications and hardware, along with micro computers, and wireless (3G and Mesh) communications were also popular again. Computer wholesalers, datacenter suppliers along with IP telephony were also very popular.

While in Sydney, I stayed in the Meriton on Pitt St, Sydney. Last year for Web Directions and CeBIT, I stayed at the Oaks Harmony Apartments, which was very nice, and a short walk to Darling Harbour, however the Meriton was closer the Darling Harbour, and closer to Town Hall (and most importantly, The Apple Store on George St!) For a 2 Bedroom Apartment in Sydney City, definitely check out the Meriton. I Really Enjoyed it.
