Art for Earth & Save the Whales
The weekend just gone by, saw the Art for Earth Project, to save the whales finish as a success. The Art for Earth project is based in Hervey Bay, and basically, it was to raise awareness of the threat of Whaling. Hervey Bay is known for the Whale Watching Season that comes around every year. Artist Jorge Pujol hopes to raise awareness of the importance of Whales, and the effects they have on the local industries, and town in General.
The Art for earth group needed somewhere to carryout this, they needed a lot of land, since we live on approx. 88 acres on the outskirts of town, where better to do this, then in my front yard.
Jorge and the Art for Earth group organised some 5,000 candles to be positioned in the shape of a mother whale, and a calf (baby) whale, under the words “Let Them Be”.
I actually woke up on the Sunday morning to rain, however, as Hervey Bay weather is, the day was perfectly sunny all afternoon. Which lead into a perfect evening, for looking at the candle formations that occured.
What is Art for Earth?
“Art for Earth, based out of Hervey Bay, is an organization that is dedicated to promoting peace, protecting humanity and the environment through large scale, high profile artistic works that draw attention to important issues, comment on current affairs and spark public debate.
Art for Earth is managed by a committee of like-minded peaceful activists who wish to assist world-renowned artist, Jorge Pujol deliver these public art images to inspire real and lasting change for a better world.” - Source: www.artforearth.net
